It’s something I’ve wanted to have done ever since I saw my first ‘before and after’. I couldn’t believe it - the possibility of having real, proper eyebrows! You see, my natural ones are pretty pathetic. And because I’ve never really had any shape or structure to them, I was just lost as to how to make them look good, without going too far and looking like I had giant caterpillars on my face.
But here was my opportunity to get stunning brows, which wouldn’t require daily, weekly or even monthly maintenance. And as a mum, having one less thing to do everyday was an added bonus.
Kasey at Auckland Lash & Brows was lovely on arrival - she explained everything to me, from the procedure, to what to expect afterwards and how to look after them. I was also happy to learn that they use the world’s best organic pigment for the microblading process.
Once I lay down Kasey then set to work measuring and drawing out how my eyebrows would look. It is a scientific art to follow the natural curve of the brow, while also ensuring they meet all the ‘rules’ for the perfect look (where they start and finish, the right gradient of the arch etc). Of course there is also taking care of the fact that most people’s eyebrows are never identical twins. Mine were no exception.
So once the shaping was complete, I was able to check how they looked and give my go ahead for the microblading to begin. We also decided on a colour together, and being that I have blonde hair and have never really had much of a brow on show, a light brown was the best option - taking into account that it would also fade a bit over time as the pigment settled into the skin.
Kasey mentioned I could have numbing cream, but as the owner of a few tattoos, I thought I would be okay. And actually, it really wasn’t too bad at all. It was definitely a kind of digging/scraping into the skin, but I would just describe it as a stinging sensation rather than being really painful.
So I just lay there, and we chatted, as my new eyebrows were sculpted to perfection. The whole process took about one and a half hours, but it can be a bit longer if numbing cream is used. I did find that by the time we got to the third round, it was quite tender going over the same skin again. But it was definitely bearable, and there was no pain afterwards at all.
And voila! I had gorgeous new eyebrows that looked so natural and so fantastic.
Kasey gave me a little container of Skin Candy to put on my eyebrows three times a day, and I was all good to go.
I can touch them, I don’t have to worry about maintenance (just to keep them out of the sun until they are completely healed - about 30 days), and they are always there.
If you have been thinking about getting your eyebrows microbladed, I would say just go for it. You won’t regret it, and will be thrilled with the results. There’s a reason Kasey and the team are booked up all the time - it’s because they are so good at what they do.
